K. Loveski is a DJ and sound-producer born in St. Petersburg, who has been rocking the Russian dance music stage since 1992. This summer he made his debut in Sri Lanka. So, it is very interesting to find out Kostya’s impressions of the event and his music future plans.
– Kostya, how are you doing? What’s new? When and where will we hear your new releases?
– Hi Sveta! Thanks for having me. I’m trying to stay in the groove as much as it is possible. New tunes and remixes are on the way, some are finished, others are in the process. You can keep an eye on Clubsonica, Droid9, WARPP, LUPS, Lowbit, SkyTop – that’s where my production is confirmed, there are also some tunes not signed yet. So you definitely will grab more from me in the nearest future.
– You recently made your debut in Sri Lanka. What impressed you the most at the party? What is the difference between parties in Sri Lanka and another world especially in Russia? What is missing from Lankan parties and what should be taken from Lankan events?
– I must admit I was pretty much impressed by everything concerning nightlife and electronic music in Sri Lanka – hospitality, obsession, quality and the vibe itself. People are really deep into proper prog house vibes there which makes the island one of the hottest spots on the map for the admirers of our genre. Nothing is missing really there except for the range of beer maybe – but that’s not a specific underground thing. I would say the crowd in Sri Lanka is more confident and engaged in that field as apposed to Russia, maybe slightly but that’s a fact. We should definitely take care of bringing Sri Lankan people to our events here and across the world too. They go crazy at the parties in a beautiful way, so visa-free and super cheap flights are well and truly deserved.
– Could you say that Sri Lanka is a progressive house island?
-As I’ve mentioned before – yes, it’s one of the most impressive and influential places for the prog house lovers in the world.
-In Sri Lanka, it has become a trend to play b2b headliners at parties. What do you think of playing b2b, do you like it? Who have you played with b2b and who would you like to play b2b with?
-I can’t say that I’m a big fan of playing b2b. I think you should know the person with whom you’re planning to do so really well – as a character and as a collector. Then there will be less mathematics and more chemistry. But sometimes it’s a cheeky way to decrease your responsibility for the dancefloor vibes at a strange party (it’s not me – it’s the other guy). I did it lots of times, but I’m more likely to refuse to do it now and prefer to play b2b with myself.
-What are your future music plans? Any gigs? Has Sri Lanka inspired you to create something new? Perhaps you have an idea to collaborate with Lankan producers or something else?
-To be honest I don’t have any particular plans at the moment, it’s not easy to plan things now due to obvious reasons. So I’m focused on production and keeping the underground vibe alive in St. Petersburg. But it’s always a breathtaking process to see where my music will lead me – new friends, new countries, new parties, new emotions, new «time of my life» episodes if you want. While staying in Colombo I’ve started making a new original track, totally based on my impressions and feelings received there. It’s finished now and it’s called «Somiya». There’s my remix already out on INU label for Sri Lankan hot producer Vegaz SL (his collab with pumbum) called «Cloudy Night» and it’s doing fairly well in Beatport charts at the moment. I would love to make a collab thing with one of my favourite producers and just nice guys NOIYSE PROJECT and KYOTTO as we’ve discussed it already. And maybe with some others – there are so many super talented producers.
